5 Considerations When Choosing Your Location/ Neighborhood

When considering a location or neighborhood to purchase your home in, there are several obvious reasons such as proximity to work, school or conveniences. Here is a list of 5 considerations that, although may not top your list in priority, may definitely change the scope of your targeted area. Some suggested pros and cons may help you decide what may be more suitable to your needs and desires.

1. Suburbs & Country
Pros: Less expensive than urban; generally get more house or property size or quality for same dollar value
Often newer homes and developments on outskirts of suburbs and rural areas as a result of growth.

Cons: Further away from work, school, entertainment or conveniences

2. Urban Areas
    Pros:
Closer to employers and often within walking distance to conveniences and entertainment
Urban areas will offer more distinctive styled homes, rather than limited styling in developments.
Cons: Noisier, busier and higher crime levels
              More expensive

3. Busy Streets
   Pros:
Less expensive. You can often meet or exceed both your budgetary needs and your wish list if you are willing to live on a busier street.
Cons: Noise level could cause disturbances in sleep or lifestyle.

4. Cul De sac
    Pros:
Less traffic than thru street makes this the #1 desired location for parents with small children.
Cons: Closer proximity of neighbors offers less privacy.

5. Corner Lots
    Pros:
Larger lots and fewer neighbors
             More visibility and directional views
Cons: Frontage on 2 streets will translate to higher property taxes
             Becomes a cut-through for pedestrians
More sidewalks to shovel in some areas

Hopefully one of these considerations awakens something in you and broadens your location perspectives.
