A
Few More Moving Tips
When
it comes to packing and preparing for a move, everyone will have their
individual methods and styles. It goes without saying that a checklist
can certainly help keep you on track and completing tasks in a timely
manner. Here are just a few more tips to add to your checklist as you
prepare for your move.
Start
planning your new homes decor. Use a floor plan layout or draw each room
on a sheet of paper. Decorate the room as you would like to see it, listing
items you are taking from your current home and those you still need to
buy. Pack only those items you are taking and donate or sell the rest.
As you box or pack items, label the box with the room the box will go
to as well as the contents inside. This can greatly ad to a more organized
move with no left over boxes of stuff to store.
If
you are using a mover, be sure your belongings are insured. Insurance
can be an optional additional purchase, or include only a limited value.
Ensure the safety of your homes' contents by investigating the insurance
policy of your mover.
In
the excitement of a move, it is inevitable that we will forget something.
These next few tips are among the top items either left behind or left
undone during a move.
Don't
forget the perimeter of your home. Take a walk around to be sure you have
packed garden hoses and caddys, garden statues, pots or decorations, items
from sheds, sprinklers, garbage cans, flags, etc. Also, remember to leave
the garage door openers and any man door keys to the garage inside the
house or at your pre-arranged location.
Lastly,
along with turning on or assigning your utilities at your new house, don't
forget to turn off the electric, gas, cable, phone and all other utilities
or services at your old home. Don't forget about your trash removal service,
any association fees, landscaping and snowplow service, cleaning service
and any other seasonal or regular service provider. It is a possibility
that these services could continue to be billed to you beyond your move
date without notification.
Hopefully,
a few of these tips will save you time and confusion during your next
move!
